Unique Experiences - Parallel Stories

Before my Great Uncle Len deployed with the Royal Navy, my Grandad went to see him. Sitting on the grass outside Len’s barracks, he told my Grandad that he was scared. For years, this was just a story my Mum shared from time to time. That was until I found myself in a similar situation. Aaron was deployed to Afghanistan and was getting ready to head out into the field for the first time. He messaged me that he was scared. In that moment, I understood a little more about what my Grandad experienced that day on the grass. How do you comfort someone who is scared when you are terrified? I don’t know what my Grandad said to comfort his little brother, but I know how he felt.

This is the message that I am anxious to share with others. Our stories, though unique to us, are often parallel to our ancestors. There is probably an ancestor who has been through what you are going through. They have dealt with grief and sadness. They have left their homelands in hopes of a better life. They have experienced the joy of buying their first home or welcoming children into their lives.

We are not just descendants — we are the next chapter.

Every choice we make, every path we take, is a continuation of the stories that began long before us. Their courage, their love, their struggles, their dreams… they live on in us.
